The Institute for Applied Research in Youth Development

The Institute for Applied Research in Youth Development in the Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Development at Tufts University was developed to create research projects, outreach programs, scholarly resources, practitioner tools, and collaborative connections to promote healthy, positive development among diverse children, adolescents, families, and communities.

The Institute seeks to engage all people and resources in our communities, to transform the way people think and talk about young people, and to promote a new action agenda enhancing the positive development of children, adolescents, families, and communities.

Uniting scholars, scientists, and practitioners using the Institute's research, education, and outreach will improve the life chances of all young people, and will contribute to the enhancement of civil society.

The Institute seeks to empower youth, families, and communities with an approach that emphasizes strengths and assets rather than problems and deficits.
